China is taking major steps to make inbound travel easier and more convenient for visitors from around the world. According to Sun Yeli, China’s Minister of Culture and Tourism, the country will continue optimizing travel services over the next five years as part of the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026–2030).
More Convenient Travel Services
China plans to further streamline several areas crucial to international visitors, including:
Visa procedures
Tax refund services
Hotel check-in requirements
Transportation accessibility
These improvements aim to create a smoother, more enjoyable travel experience for foreign tourists.
More High-Quality Inbound Tourism Products
The government is preparing to develop:
New high-quality tour routes
Specialized inbound tourism products
Inbound tourism consumption clusters
Global marketing campaigns to showcase China’s cultural and natural charm
These initiatives are designed to attract more visitors and provide diverse travel options across the country.
Expanded Visa-Free Access
China has significantly expanded its visa-free entry policies, making travel easier than ever:
29 countries now have mutual visa-exemption agreements with China.
48 countries enjoy China’s unilateral visa-free entry policy.
The 240-hour visa-free transit program now covers 65 entry ports, allowing seamless long layovers and multi-city exploration.
Simplified Arrival Process
Since November 20, travelers can complete the online arrival card before boarding their flight and enter China simply by scanning a QR code at immigration—saving time and reducing paperwork.
Inbound Tourism on the Rise
China’s new travel-friendly policies are already showing strong results.
In the third quarter of this year, foreign nationals made:
7.246 million visits to China under visa-free entry
A 48.3% year-on-year increase
Accounting for 72.2% of all foreign entries into China
This surge demonstrates China’s growing appeal to international travelers and its commitment to supporting global cultural exchange.
